Keep the reels a pastime

Why free reels still mean 18+

Social casino reels copy the look, sound and pace of real gambling, which is why Ghillie Glen is meant only for adults over the legal gambling age and never aims at anyone under 18. You confirm your age twice: on the banner you meet when you arrive, and with the tick on the account form.

Lines Torquil will never cross

• Run real-money gambling in the glen, or promote it.
• Award a prize with real-world value.
• Sell coins, or add in-app purchases to any world.
• Steer you down the glen towards gambling operators or affiliates.
• Use countdowns or streaks to nag you back to the glen.

Torquil’s honest warning

Free games can be tuned to feel generous, and they top your balance up for nothing; real-money games do neither. A good run in the glen predicts nothing about how you would fare with money at stake.

Signs Torquil watches for

• Spinning on well past the time you set.
• Getting short-tempered when you have to stop.
• Reaching for the reels to shift a dark mood.
• Sleep, work or the people close to you are losing out.
• You go looking for a version of the reels with real money.

Keeping a firm grip on the crook

• Before the first spin, settle how long you mean to play.
• Leave autoplay off, and spin each one yourself.
• Take a break now and then, as Torquil does with his tea.
